                                                                                                                                                                                               As you can see, I'm no youngster.  My             yoga  practice keeps me physically healthy, flexible and energetic.     Through the years   I've come to recognize that yoga guides me toward better relationships as well as a serene and optimistic outlook.             Because I've learned  to listen to the wisdom of my body, the  foods  I eat are healthy, nutritious and are  derived  from sources which are gentle on our planet.                                                                 
I am a Certified Chair Yoga Instructor            through the Laksmi Voelker "Get Fit Where You Sit" program.   I   am a member of the International  Association of fYoga Therapists and am insured through Fitness and Wellness Insurance.

If You're Wondering....

“I’m too old to do yoga.”

People of ALL ages are practicing chair yoga right now. A good chair yoga  teacher will ask about and be aware of any limitations you might have. Chair  yoga has helped  students with the symptoms of many health issues including  high blood pressure, anxiety, fatigue, arthritis, and many others.  Chair yoga can be an integral part of a lifestyle  for seniors.

 “I’m not flexible enough to do yoga.”

 
Many people starting a chair yoga class have issues with flexibility, and your  teacher will help modify the poses to accommodate that. Your flexibility should  get better and better each day you practice chair yoga.

 “I’ll feel awkward in the class.”


A good instructor will take poses step by step and at every point say something  like, “this might be your pose today”, giving you explicit permission to stop when your body says stop.

 “I wouldn’t look good in one of those little yoga outfits.”
 

 
Simply wear loose-fitting, comfortable street clothes.

 “Yoga might conflict with my religion.”

Historically, yoga was meant to be a total way of life, but very few people who practice yoga in the Western world subscribe to that approach. Most people in  our society become involved in yoga for physical and mental fitness. This is  especially true for those in a chair yoga program, so most chair yoga instructors  don’t emphasize the spiritual aspects of yoga.  Yoga is compatible with all  religions  and philosophies. Yoga  does not conflict with nor deny one's own beliefs. 
In fact, it  can deepen those beliefs by focussing upon a sense of serenity and connectedness to others, to the self  and to the external  world.
